What Is It?
MCCQE Part I is an assessment that tests critical medical knowledge and clinical decision-making ability of a candidate at a level expected of a medical student who is completing their medical degree in Canada. Candidates graduating and completing the MCCQE Part I typically enter supervised practice. Aside from formal accreditation processes of the undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, the MCCQE Part I is the only national standard for medical schools across Canada and, therefore, is administered at the end of medical school.
The MCCQE Part I is a one-day, computer-based test. You are allowed up to four hours in the morning session to complete 210 Multiple-Choice Questions. You are allowed up to three and a half hours in the afternoon session for the Clinical Decision-Making component, which consists of 38 cases with short-menu and short-answer write-in questions.

Mariam wasn’t supposed to be stocking gloves in a Canadian dental clinic.
Back home, she was a practicing physician. But after landing in Canada, reality hit hard: no license, no shortcuts, and no idea how to conquer the MCCQE.
So she took the first job she could find—a dental sterilization tech.
Her days were full of BD tests, disinfecting trays, and racing to turn over rooms before the next patient arrived. Important work? Yes. But it didn’t feed the doctor in her soul.
Then she started with MCCQE Part 1 practice tests that actually felt like the real exam. Quizzes that didn’t just test recall, but demanded clinical reasoning.
Here’s what helped Mariam ditch the self-doubt:
🧠 MCCQE-style quizzes that reflect real practice
📊Mock tests to train decision-making under pressure
📚 Focus on application, not just memorization
😅 And a reminder that even doctors need reminders to “wipe down the tray”
The MCCQE is tough—but you’re tougher. Whether you’re holding a mop or a manual, your medical future in Canada is still very much alive.
